Current MOCA curator Jeffrey Deitch, who recently announced his resignation, will open the Calligraffiti: 1984-2013 show at the Leila Heller Gallery in Chelsea. It is rumored that Ann Goldstein, who resigned as director of Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, might return to MOCA.
Back in 1984 street art lover Deitch and Middle Eastern art dealer Heller collaborated on the original Calligraffiti exhibition which explored the links between American graffiti, abstract and calligraphic art.
Opening September 5th, the show now features installations and works from Keith Haring, Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Shirin Neshat to street artists as eL Seed.
Calligraffiti 1984- 2013 is built on the relationship between graffiti, street art and calligraphy in contemporary art.
